Children's Discovery Garden

On Thursday, May 10th we went to the children's garden at Thanksgiving point for Vanessa's monthly field trip that her school puts on. Each adult is in charge of a group of kids, so I had to keep an eye on Vanessa, her friend Lexi, Chandler and baby Ashton. I didn't realize what a responsiblity it was to keep track of that many kids, especially when Vanessa kept running off with Lexi!
The first event was the Noah's ark; it had shallow water for the kids to play in all around the ark. Every once in awhile the Elephant on top of the ark would spit out water from it's trunk to get the kids wet. Vanessa immediately took her shoes off and ran around in the water. Chandler, a more timid and shy little boy, took about 10 minutes to warm up and finally he walked around in the water. They really enjoyed the Noah's ark; I think it was their favorite one! Then we were off to the Bear caves. You could hear recorded sounds of bears growling as you made your way through dark tunnels! The tunnels really made me work to keep the kids together because there were about three or four different openings where the kids could go in and out, which made it hard to keep tabs on them! The also had a pretty eco-pond to look at and right after the pond was a fun kid-sized light house. They spent a good amount of time playing inside the light house, going up the ladder to reach the top and peer out the windows. The last event was the caterpillar that you could climb inside of and play on. After all the events we headed back to the Noah's ark to play there "one last time", but as we were walking back, Chandler decided to give me a scare and hide in a hedge so I couldn't find him. We had all the children yelling, "Chandler", and since he is such a quiet boy, it makes it that much harder to find him. We finally found him in the hedge and he was just playing by himself and not aware that he was lost. We had fun playing in the water again and then we headed home and stopped by Arctic Circle for some hamburgers and the kids really enjoyed the field trip!

Simple pleasures on an early morning walk

Today was an interesting day! After Chandler, Ashton, and I dropped off Vanessa at school, we decided to go on a walk around the block. As we were on our walk a little piece of nature scurried on by. At first I thought nothing of it and then I looked down in some flowers and saw the smallest baby quail! Chandler and I circled around it, as we faintly heard its parents squabbling in the near distance. We were careful just in case there were more, and there were! There were three little baby quail just sitting in the street! I was frightened for them! They barely knew how to walk and I was wondering why their parents had them cross the street. Maybe they were threatened? As I was a threat to the parents too! So I scooped up all three quail in my hands and put them in the flowers in one of the yards to join the other baby quail. What an experience to hold such little lives in your hands! Chandler and I had such a delight looking at the baby quail. We left them there in hopes they would find a safe place to hide.

Ashton's Blessing

Ashton is now 8 weeks old and his blessing was Sunday, May 6th at our ward house. I would have post this blog earlier but after the events of the blessing I was drained! Ashton is about 9 lbs., he is still very small, but very chunky. The blessing was a huge success and I enjoyed all of the family and friends that came to share in Ashton's blessing. In testimony meeting I was very touched by those in my family and some friends who bore their testimonies! Thank you so much! There was a testimony in particular, I won't mention anyone's names, that really touched me and was very well said! Thank you again! Also, thanks to all those who gave a helping hand in preparing food and serving it. I missed those who couldn't make it to the blessing and hope they can come to any of the other one's in the future. I tried to get pictures of all those who came, but some I didn't get the chance. So take a look at the pictures I posted.

Great-Grandma Winward turns 100!!!

Not very often in your life time will you know someone who has lived to be 100 years old! So Dave and I made sure that we took some time out of our lives to go to my great-grandma Winward's 100th birthday party! There was tons of relatives there, even some I had never met before. Great-Grandma Winward is a relative on my mother's side of the family, it is her father's mother. Even though Great-grandma Winward can't hear or see very well it was fun to take pictures with her and see her again. We had a fun time as usual.

This is everyone in my family
who made it to the 100th
birthday party!

The fun Aunt!

Who does Everyone go to for fun and excitement? BRITT! She is what you would call the "fun" Aunt. I mean come one, look at her, in the tub with her clothes on? Filling up the tub past their legs clear up to their necks without permission? Yeah the picture tells it all. Brittany doesn't waste life, she lives on the"Edge" and looks for any opportunity to enjoy the world all around. Her niece and nephews don't seem to wear her out, she lives to throw them around, tickle them and to do anything that would put a smile on their faces. That's why we love her so! She shows them happiness and how to live life with excitement!

The Cosmetologist's Satisfaction!

Most of you know that I am a Cosmetologist and love doing hair! Some of you know this is my sister-in-law, Melissa. She married Dave's younger brother, Tim. I met Melissa at Cosmetology school where we became friends. I introduced her to Tim and they made History from there. Anyway, Melissa finally let me cut her hair. I was a little nervous at
first because I hadn't cut for awhile and I had never done her hair before. Well, the outcome was great. She loved it! She looks great with both hairstyles!

Boy or Girl?

Suspense no longer! The final count down is up! We finally know what this little "jokester" is in my belly! My baby's due date was suppose to be April 1st, we tried finding out if the baby was a girl or boy with two different ultrasounds but we eventually gave up to find out at the end of my pregnancy since the baby wouldn't let us know with its modesty. If you don't know what the baby is already, you'll have to read on to find out...

Three weeks early...

My third miracle, my little jokester has decided to enter into this world, slowly...
On Saturday, March 10th around noon I started to have labor, I won't say "go into labor", because it was mild, so mild that at first I thought it was premature labor or just consistent Braxton hicks (practice contractions). The contractions lasted the whole day and were about 5-7 minutes apart. I went about my day, we even went to a Temple sealing and a Bishopric party toward the end of the night. At the Bishopric party the contractions were every 5 minutes apart, and I was hoping that my water would not break. I was lucky that it didn't! Around midnight my contractions started to get painful, through some of the contractions I wondered why my water hadn't broke yet? With prior pregnancies I have never had a problem with my water breaking. Was something wrong? Finally, I convinced myself that I was in fact in labor and we called my mom to come and watch Vanessa and Chandler. Dave and I arrived at St. Mark's Hospital at 3:45 a.m., I was dilated at a "3" and 80% effaced. My contractions were getting really strong and really, really painful! The nurse said I couldn't have an epidural until I dilated to a "4" or if my water decided to break.

8:00 a.m. Finally they gave me the epidural after they had to break my water! I was so grateful to finally not have to deal with any more delirious contractions! My O.B. kept coming and checking on me because I have opted to have a V-bac (vaginal birth after c-section) with this baby because of my terrible experience having Chandler c-section.
10:00 a.m. My contractions are slowing down! Every 7 minutes instead of every 3-5 minutes...I really felt there was something wrong! So they tried changing my position and my contractions sped up again.
11:30 a.m. The nurse came in to check me, and I was dilated to an "8" but slowly progressing. She left the room. I figured I wouldn't see her for awhile and she came running back in with my Doctor and worry was all over their faces! Apparently, the baby's heart beat kept dropping during each contraction at this point and they figured the cord was wrapped around the baby's shoulder causing the baby to have problems coming down the birth canal. So they had to put a catheter inside me to blow in liquid to relieve some of the pressure on the baby. I dilated to a "9" but it wasn't going fast enough and they didn't want to do a c-section after all I had been through. So my doctor made me "push" myself to a "10" and finally I was fully dilated and the baby was coming...after a three more pushes there the baby was!!! Another miracle!
At 12:17 a.m. we found out, "It's a Boy!"
Little Ashton Scott Glass was only 5 lbs and 13 oz. and 19 inches long!

It was a long labor but being able to have him without a c-section will allow me to heal more positively!
